Will Lockett is my favorite content provider. I first knew Lockett as a tech writer, but his range expanded to include politics, philosophy, and art. Will Lockett’s stories are highly informed, and his perspective always brings something new to the topic. He is prolific, producing impactful posts on a daily basis. I don’t know how he does it.
In a recent post, Lockett writes about art. via Studio Ghibli Films, with which I am barely familiar, but Lockett inspires me to discover Ghibli. Last week, OpenAI’s ChatGPT introduced tech for ripping off Ghibli’s iconic identity so anyone can create Ghibli effects. This is intellectual property theft. As Will points out, AI can produce fake Ghibli art at such volume that it can rapidly exceed the quantity of Ghibli’s authentic work and do damage to the Ghibli brand, which Will ties in with the larger political process taking place at high speed with every breath we take:
