Post Hearing, Pre Work Session Testimony Re the Boothbay "Replacement" School Charter
A call to honor the Maine Home Rule Amendment in Government.
Greetings,In my last story, I posted the notice I received about the work session, which it seems was some kind of AI generated message. My Representative, Holly Stover, who also sponsored LD 1786 and testified at the hearing as well, says that I cannot submit new testimony, but another person named Cheryl Chapman says that I can and she will try to get it printed for the work session but cannot guarantee it. I am not clear from Holly’s communication if she understands that I already submitted testimony before the May 9th hearing.
This is what Ms. Chapman wrote
Ms. Anderson, you will need to go to the Public Hearing date of 5-9 to be able to submit more testimony. Thank You and I am sorry for any confusion you may have in this process. Cheryl
Yes Ms. Anderson you can submit the extra testimony using the May 9th PH date and the Committee will get it as I try to print copies off of late testimony. I can’t guarantee the committee will read the extra but I will do all I can to make sure it is in their folders. Cheryl
Good Morning Ms. Andersen, Unless the Chairs request certain information for a work session, we do not invite the public to be in the Zoom Attendee room. You can certainly watch the meeting live by going to the Legislative Website and then go to the committee of your choice. Once you are there you would click on the live icon and you will hear and see everything for the committee that day. The committee has your testimony to review if they wish. Thank You for your inquiry and I hope this helps.

That which Ms. Chapman stated does not apply only to me, but to any inhabitants of the municipality. We are the ones with the authority to amend our school charter, but we have been left out of the process. The more people who would submit a testimony about what they think should be in the charter, the louder and stronger the message.
Add yours HERE for May 9th at 1:00
I am submitted an additional testimony that incorporates my reactions to the other testimonies at the hearing, an analysis of what the Maine Constitution and state law says about the authority to amend the charter, some background information on how politics works in Boothbay, and what I think should be included in the school charter.
