I am really pleased that News Break gives my stories high CV scores. That means that I am creating the kind of content they want, and that is why, really for the first time, I care about getting paid for my blogging, researching, and reporting.
I started writing because there was no content expressing my views, which I am sure are shared by many others, in varying degrees. We are all used to having money connected with attempts to control. I didn’t care about adapting my writing motivation to making money and going viral. I didn’t care if only a few people were reading me. Maybe they were the important few to reach.
But the irony is, now that I am getting 8–9 CV scores for my stories on News Break, I want to get paid for writing what I want to say. I am 194 followers short of being able to apply for paid status to write what I want to write! I could apply today and surely be accepted based on my CV scores but for the missing followers.
Now I care about getting paid because I am confident that what I do is what News Break wants and I will not be pressured to change it. Once my visceral objections have melted away, I can see clearly now! I need the money!
Not To Worry! Write ONE viral Post and I can have those followers tomorrow!
How many thousands of views does it take, on average to pick up 200 followers? What is the ratio? What is my target? I want to write only one viral story, not half a dozen or so. I don’t want to be lured into chasing viral stories as an ongoing thing. I just need one, enough to get 194 followers!
What if- I could write a viral story AND it could be what I want to write as well, That is what I need to visualize, Can I get there from here?
Years ago I read a book about Harold Geneen of ITT fame. It was said that he would offer an employee more than they had even been paid and then he would give them the biggest challenge of their life. One could say that it is ironic that one has to write something viral to get the followers when my concept of viral posts is that they are of so-so interest as if to go viral one has to reduce to the lowest common denominator. That is my first thought about it. and that is the challenge- to overcome that idea and to reinvent my own idea of what a viral post is, which is a post that will appeal to a mass market, but there are different degrees of mass markets. There are niche markets within mass markets. The truth is that if I can do this I will be increasing my reach, and that is a good thing. Being challenged out of your own comfort zone is a good thing.
My thoughts take me back to when I had just graduated from college and was looking for a job in New York City as a textile colorist. Although I was aware that I needed to find a job, I never thought about it. I just woke up every day and worked on my portfolio- no pressure! Then one day I woke up and felt like looking for a job so I hopped on the subway, got off in the fashion district, and went to a Chock Full of Nuts. There a man sitting next to me struck up a conversation and asked me what I was doing, I said I was looking for a job as a colorist. he told me that they were looking for someone at such and such a place and so I went there and got the job.
When I told my friend who was also looking for a job, she said, “I don’t get it, I have been going to interviews every day and you go out once and get a job!”.
I said, “Well, I am only looking for one job so I figured I only needed to go out once!” Mathematically correct logic!
I do not know how that applies to writing one viral article that will conjure up two hundred Newsbreak followers, except what has worked for me in the past is to know what I want but not consciously think about it every day- just improve my work, then one day, without foreplanning, I will feel like writing a viral post and I will know what it is.
The challenge of a lifetime. Be Clear Now.
If you would like to follow me on News Break, go to my profile and click on an article and follow me from the link in an article. Even better if you follow me on your mobile phone because support said followers have to follow on the app- it doesn’t count on the website. That seems as if it is saying that one has to follow on a mobile phone.
Stay tuned!
